Byzantine Weights, Circa 6th-7th century. Weight of 6 Nomismata (Bronze, 28 mm, 27.14 g), a circular discoid coin weight with centering holes, raised rims and a double-grooved edge. Ṅ S with cross above engraved in outline; all within stylized laurel wreath; all within large incuse circle within raised outer rim. Rev. Plain except for centering hole; all within large incuse circle within raised outer rim. Bendall -. MAH -. Pera -. Very rare and with attractive earthen highlights. Minor surface fault on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.

While circular discoid commercial weights with raised rims are quite common, similar coin weights such as this one are in fact very rare
